Apprentice Landscape Operative Through Moulton College
This vacancy is for an apprenticeship position in horticulture. The apprentice landscape operative will support the team to complete grounds maintenance predominantly, with some supporting functions in tree surgery / tree felling. There will be training provided in the safe use of machinery and maintenance of these tools. The aim of the apprenticeship is to support apprentices to gain skills to enable them to be employed as a landscape operative on completion of the apprenticeship.
Closing Date: Vacancy will close on successful recruitment of an apprentice for March 2018.
Weekly Wage: £140 per week, with 6 month pay review, which could lead to pay increase.
Working Week: 40 hours per week Inclusive of one day at College.
Winter season: 7.30am – 4.00pm
Summer season: 6.30am – 3.00pm
Apprenticeship Duration: 18 Months
Possible Start Date: March 2018

Although it is not a requirement for you to have experience in Horticulture, some experience of working outside is desirable.

Things To Consider
This role involves you working outdoors for the duration of the working day. This means that you will have to contend with both cold and hot weather conditions ensuring to take responsibility for your own health in this situation, for example wearing appropriate clothing, staying hydrated etc. The role is very physically demanding and you will be expected to be active all day, apart from your breaks within the working day. Please consider whether you are physically fit enough to complete the work and tasks requested of you. Within the role you will also be required to wear PPE, although there are regular kit checks you need to take full responsibility for your own equipment. Once training is completed you will be assigned equipment such as a hedge cutter, secateurs etc, you will be given time to maintain these tools, but it is your individual responsibility to maintain these to the expected standard, if you do not you may incur charges for damages to equipment. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentice’s wages then increase to minimum wage for their age for the completion of their apprenticeship.
